We are having a “Mardi Gras” themed birthday party; are there streets of the parade route that we can use to “name our five tables?”- Doris from Orange, California

27 December 2006

Sounds like fun. The parade route’s main streets are St. Charles and Canal. So it might be better to go with sections of the city that the parades pass through since you have five tables to label.  This year, in 2007, there will be one New Orleans City route beginning in Uptown. The parade continues through the Garden District, the Warehouse/Arts District, The CBD (central business district) and then it skirts along the edge of the French Quarter before ending in the Superdome or the Convention Center.

We are fortunate that the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast is on the parade route in Uptown. Its a great spot for parade viewing and participation since the parades are interactive. “Throw me something, Mr.” is the most common phrase that can be heard at parade time as thousands call to float riders (Krewe members) to toss them any number of favors that are traditional “throws” for the Mardi Gras parades. Its non-stop fun for five days each year and a once in a lifetime experience. Choice rooms are still available at the Inn, but they usually go quickly right after the New Year. Call soon and come on down!?
