What is your favorite place to go for New Year’s celebration? What would you recommend to an out-of-towner coming to New Orleans for the New Year? -Glenwood Springs

20 December 2006

New Orleans is a great place for New Year’s. I would probably suggest an early dinner at one of our well-known restaurants that serve a full course dinner. Commander’s Palace, Arnaud’s, K-Pauls Louisiana Kitchen, Broussards, Stella or Dickie Brennan’s Steak House just to name a few of our 722 restaurants now open since Katrina (almost all).

After dinner, I would stroll along Bourbon Street, perhaps listen to some music and have a hurricane at Pat O’ Briens. But I would leave early enough to get a viewing spot near the river (not far away) for the dropping of the New Years Baby from atop Jax Brewery followed by a fireworks show on the Mississippi. If we still had the energy, I would finish our evening on Frenchman Street at Snug Harbor Jazz Club for a late night set.

We still have some nice rooms remaining here at the Inn, so do call and let us help you with a planning the last weekend of 2006 in the Crescent City.
