New Orleans at Holiday Time-Something for Everyone

26 November 2006

Come to New Orleans at holiday time for all the sights, sounds & great fun. Many people do not realize that New Orleans has so much to offer during the holidays beginning right after Thanksgiving.

One of the nicest venues for the whole family is the Celebration in the Oaks in City Park. The attraction opened this weekend, November 24th, and is always a family favorite. There is something for everyone there and the venue operates all of December.

The Park’s Carousel Gardens has rides that include the Live Oak Ladybug Roller Coaster, Fun Slide, Bumper Cars, Rockin’ Tug, and the Scrambler. Kid’s rides include the Mini-Jet, Umbrella Cars, and Construction Zone.

Each evening, local groups will perform. You will enjoy gospel groups, children’s choirs, dancing troupes and many of New Orleans most talented performers. Re-enactments of the Nativity will be presented by area public and parochial schools with the help of the Council of Catholic Schools Cooperative Club and the Archdiocesan Office of Catholic Schools in the Botanical Garden.

Family Holiday Photos and Santa Photos will be taken by Professional Photographers on the walking tour of the venue. The photos are available for purchase. Santa Claus will be on the walking tour nightly from November 24th through December 30th, 2005, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Local artists will display and sell original art and a variety of handmade items nightly. For more information, visit midcityartmarket.org

The New Orleans Botanical Gardens has been replanted since the storm and is generously decorated for the season . You’ll also not want to miss the New Orleans Historic Train Garden. A 14,000 square foot elevated display located in the Botanical Garden showcases over 40 intricately crafted New Orleans landmark buildings and an assortment of trains and streetcars travel along 1,400 feet of rail.

City Park’s fairy tale theme park Storyland features twenty-six larger then life storybook exhibits for kids that allow our little visitors to climb on, slide down or pretend to be their favorite character. Mother Goose, Pinocchio’s whale, and Captain Hook’s ship as well as many other whimsical figures will delight the young and young at heart nightly on the walking tour.
