Now that New Orleans has made it through the storm season without any problems, is the city going to be a good spot for the holidays do you think? Will the Sugar Bowl be back there again this year? Just wondering on the progress. Russell-Colorado

We were so pleased that we had a quiet summer with no storms. It gave the city the time it needed to continue our march back to normalcy. We are pleased to report that the tourism side of town is back in full force. You may have seen the nationally televised season opener of the Saints game in the Super Dome this past September. It really signaled the beginning of “all things back” to the world (excluding the residential districts that will require several years to rebuild). Our restaurants are back, the swamp tours, plantations, museums, and Jazz clubs are all in full swing.

New Years should be a terrific time here in the Crescent City culminating with a ball dropping at Jax brewery and a fireworks show on the Mississippi River. The Allstate Sugar bowl is set for Wednesday January 3, 2007. Sugar Bowl events include a prep football classic, a swimming invitational, a sailing regatta, a basketball classic, a pep rally and of course the big game. Competing teams will be announced in December.

The Avenue Inn has room availability for the Sugar Bowl and New Years weekend. We can assist you with booking a New Year’s Eve Dinner event, tours and venues all around the city and the region.
