Halloween Wedding a Spirited Success

4 November 2006

This past week, the Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast arranged an unusual wedding for a lovely couple from Mississippi. Yes, they wanted to get married on Halloween and we were happy to accommodate them. Of course, we had traditional decorations around the house, but Smiling Sam the ghostly skeleton was the big hit. Without warning, he would speak out when ever someone passed him by, it was quite startling to say the least. He found his way into the ceremony and the Reverend allowed him to add a few words during the proceedings.

The Groom came as Count Dracula, the Bride, a gothic goddess. Both were upbeat and into the spirit of the holiday. The wedding march was not traditional; she walked down the Inn’s 1891 staircase to the haunting melody from the Phantom of the Opera. All the guests were in full costume; the Innkeepers were dressed as a Witch and Freddy Krueger.

Wedding arrangements included a two night stay at the Inn in the Grand King wedding suite, the Minister, a celebration cake, champagne toast service, unity candle lighting, a photographer, coffee/soda for guests afterwards, bowls of trick or treat candy(of course), use of the ceremony space for two hours, decorations and assistance with all the details.

The Inn is happy to customize wedding themes. Call for details of our packages and for answers to questions about getting married in New Orleans.
