I am a first-timer to New Orleans, what should I see and do?

20 October 2006

Of course it depends on how much time you have available, but here is a short list of some of the more popular venues that guests generally choose to visit:

Bourbon Street-Day & Night

Jackson Square-Street artists & carriage ride

French Market area-buy a few gifts to take home

Cafe du Monde-Beignets with chicory coffee

Antique Shopping on Royal/Charters Streets

Cemetary or Haunted tour

Riding City Tour

Riverboat ride (Ferry boat option if time is limited)

Aquariam and/or Zoo

Magazine Street Shopping/Arts District

Streetcar ride (Canal & Riverfront lines opening)

Plantation day excursion (about six hours)

World War II D-Day museum

New Orleans Museum of Art/Botanical Garden/City Park

Mardi Gras World

There are many other places to see and visit and the restaurants are another list altogether. We did not include Jazz clubs, but in combination with a night on the town, one should put several clubs on your must do list of activities. The Avenue Inn Bed and Breakfast serves its guests in a consierge capacity, and we are more than happy to assist you with your New Orleans planning schedule and even book all the venues for you with no additional charge or fee. Give us a call for assistance.
