Summer in New Orleans is Value Time!

22 May 2008

Contrary to popular belief, visiting New Orleans in the summer months is a good thing. Yes, its Hurricane season, but before Katrina the city was not effected by a major storm for years (more than 20). The media has done a good job of reminding folks about our summer weather and some are still not coming because of the “negative publicity”. But that’s a great reason to come. There are less people here in the off peak season and lodging rates are value oriented. The truth is that storms take time to arrive, so even if there was one, visitors would have the opportunity to leave with plenty of warning.

The positive side of the coin is that all the restaurants, clubs and attractons are open in the off season (unlike other destinatons that have extreme weather for several months) so you will be able to enjoy our world class venues without the hassle of trying to get a reservation. If you have not read some of the major news reports lately, the city is in great shape. Since January of 2008 we have hosted more millions of visitors to the Sugar Bowl, the BCS championship, Mardi Gras, French Quarter festival, Jazz Festival and of course countless conventions.  Everyone came and experienced a unique city in great shape; much different than what they had expected. In fact, most were pleasantly surprised to find New Orleans in great shape. Perhaps that is one reason why readers of Tripadvisor.com recently ranked New Orleans as number 6 in a list of best destinatons in the United States.

You should plan a summer get a way and be surprised too.
